What to Pack for Your African Safari

Packing for a trip to an African safari is obviously not like a usual holiday packing. Navigating through dusty and bumpy road in an open top jeep means you will get dirty, much more than you expect. Expect the temperatures to change a lot during the day, so it is important to keep extra layers along. Also remember to pack light and comply with baggage restrictions.

It is better to invest in a soft sided duffel bag rather than taking along your heavy hard-shell suitcase.

Here is an all-inclusive packing list that should cover for about a Weeks’s trip to safari in Africa.

Dressing Up

Leave your formal and evening wears at home as safaris are generally a casual affair. Keep loose fitting and lightweight clothes so that they keep you cool during the scorching heat of the sun. Also, they will dry up faster in case you get caught up in the rain. Keep a light jacket for early morning drives or a sudden change of weather. The nights are relatively warmer as most of the safaris have a campfire at night. It is recommended to pick long sleeves and trousers or ankle length leggings to save yourself from mosquito bites.
